NMG and Art Pictures consolidate TV production business
15 Jul 2015
National Media Group (NMG) and the
co-owners of Art Pictures Fyodor Bondarchuk and Dmitry Rudovsky are
restructuring their TV production business. The new holding entity Art
Pictures Group will manage the group with Nikita Trynkin, the ex
top-manager of Bazelevs and Central Partnership, as the DG, Vedomosti
reports.
Kartoteka.ru states that Nikita Trynkin was appointed a GD of one of the subsidiaries of NMG – NMG Inform LLC. Earlier, the GD of the entire NMG Alexandr Ordzhonikidze was the head of the company. A source close to the holding claims that this entity is soon to become part of Art Pictures and renamed to Art Pictures Group. The shareholders of Art Pictures Vision will transfer their packages to the balance of the new holding company. The details are still in discussion.
The change of structure might happen by this fall. A source familiar with the situation said that the list of the managers of Art Pictures who will join the holding company is being decided now. According to him, Bondarchuk, Rudovsky and Murugov will keep their key positions as top management. The owners plan to develop Art Pictures with a focus on NMG’s channels (REN TV and Channel 5) as well as those close to its shareholders (CTC Media).
Fyodor Bondarchuk confirmed that the shares of the co-owners of Art Pictures Vision will be transferred to NMG Inform, after which the founders will receive the packages in the new company. A representative of NMG declined to comment, so did Trynkin.
Trynkin was a managing director of Timur Bekmambetov’s Bazelevs group of companies in 2009-2011 and later he was involved in his own production projects. In 2013-2014, he was the executive VP of Central Partnership (now part of Gazprom Media). His acquaintances claim that he was partnering with Art Pictures during the last few months.
NMG acquired 50% of Art Pictures Vision in March 2014; the remaining shares belong to Fyodor Bondarchuk, Dmitry Rudovsky, Dmitry Tabarchuk, Vyacheslav Murugov and Sergey Arlanov (10% each). NMG also has options to purchase 50% of Art Pictures Studio, a movie production company. The latter used to have three owners: Bondarchuk and Rudovsky, as well as Telecomprom, which was close to the ex-President of the Bank of Moscow Andrey Borodin. The new management of the bank bankrupted Telecomprom in 2014 and sold its 26% in Art Pictures Studio at an auction for 1 million rubles. The producers challenged that sale in court, which ruled to transfer 13.18% of shares to Bondarchuk (already owned 37.5%) and 12.82% to Rudovsky (owned 36.5%).
Last December, NMG founded another TV production company Prime Time, headed by the ex-General Producer of CTC Media Vyacheslav Murugov. He acted as a co-founder together with VGTRK. The company has not started active operation yet, and Vyacheslav Murugov works at Art Pictures Vision. It is not clear whether Prime Time will also become a part of the new business structure. Murugov declined to comment.
